LAMBING BOOT CAMP 2017:
Not yet scheduled.
Volunteers are especially appreciated during lambing season. There is always a lot to learn, so I try to plan several short semi-formal hands-on sessions on topics such as tube feeding, ear tagging, birth assistance, new lamb/ewe management, and bottle/bucket feeding. Sessions are often scheduled “on the fly” as learning opportunities arise. Over the years, I’ve learned a lot about sheep, and love to “pay forward” the help that my lambing mentors gave me when I started.
LAMBING BOOT CAMP 2016:
The ewes were bred to start lambing March 1 this year…earlier than usual. I anticipate that lambing will extend through April, because our youngest breeding ram was fairly young.
We already have two “bucket lambs” from a collaborating farm. They’re part of a set of quadruplets born in late January to a ewe originally from Pinwheel’s best lines. It’s fun to have a foreshadowing of the cuteness to come!
