The buildings at Pinwheel are unique and represent many building styles. Improvements and repairs have been made with long term functionality in mind.
  • On Parcel A: A 3-bedroom, 1 bath 1950 ranch style with attached oversized 2-car garage and mostly-finished full basement. Private well system completely rebuilt in 2012, with oversight from Douglas County Health Dept. and Douglas County Zoning and Codes Dept. Kinetico water softener system. Septic system is old but functions very well. 15 SEER heat pump with electric backup installed in 2014. Air-tight wood stove was used to heat the house for 12 years. Double pane vinyl replacement windows in main living space. Extreme attic insulation. Large mud room. Steel siding.
  • On Parcel A: 9′ x 12′ chicken house with metal roof.
  • On Parcel A: Livestock shed built with railroad tie posts, metal roof.
  • On Parcel A, but portable: “Brooder house” conventional 2×4 frame construction with wood siding, probably 1950s or earlier.
  • On Parcel B: Eclectic 25’ x 38’ “green barn” with greenhouse-style roof. Partially set up for sheep weighing, sorting and loading. Some electric. Water hydrants nearby.
  • On Parcel B, but moveable: 10 x 12 galvanized shed on pipe skids, 1/2 open front, new in 2004.
  • On Parcel B: 24’ x 48’ high tunnel, 5’ side walls with drop curtains; 2008. Galvanized hoops and posts with cedar end walls and hip boards; base boards are old second-hand treated 2 x 6. Double poly in reasonably good condition, c-channel and wiggle wire. 6′ south entrance, 3′ north entrance. Narrow tool shed on north end.
  • On Parcel B: 20’ x ?? carport with knee walls, upper walls fully screened for vegetable post-harvest handling. 6′ south entrance, 3′ north entrance. Working on wiring and plumbing.
  • On Parcel B: Licensed pit privy, built 2007. Works great, lots of capacity left. We have permission from the Health Dept. to rebuild the above-ground portion to meet ADA standards, but the “working parts” underground cannot be replaced when it fails. Any future privy would need to be a vault type.
  • On Parcel C: Well-built wood frame structure with “pyramid” style roof, narrow front porch, and badly constructed rear addition over deep crawl space. Main structure has concrete floor. Central brick chimney. Local legend is that the original structure was built as a granary or vegetable stand; later windows and interior walls were added to convert it to a house. After many years as a dirt floor house, the concrete floor was poured. Termites were inevitable, and have done considerable damage, but it still stands straight and has a good roof. I had it reclassified as an Ag Use Building several years ago.
  • On Parcel D: 30 x 40 metal pole shed with gravel floor, partial loft, walk door plus overhead door.
  • On Parcel E: A small 1-bedroom, 1 bathroom 1930 cottage with extensive recent renovations including all new plumbing and a wall-mount gravity gas furnace with programmable thermostat (system works when power is out!). Unique plumbing details include a vanity sink in the bedroom, and both hot and cold frost-free water spigots outside. Designed for energy efficiency. City water, sewer, trash and recycling services. Roof needs complete tear-off. Some exterior painting, structural work and masonry repair needed. Part crawl space, part dirt-floor cellar. Some wiring work still needed, but has modern breaker panel, no knob-and-tube wiring.
